Tuesday's Players of the Day American League The California Angels are in pursuit of another Western Division title and they'll be depending largely on the bat of star outfielder Vladimir Guerrero to get there.

After dropping their opener at Minnesota, the Angels roared back, thanks in large part to the live bat of Vlad the Impaler, who drove in single runs in the 1st, 5th and 8th innings which alone was more than enough, as Jon Garland shut down the Twinkies on 6 hits over 8 innings. The Angels won, 9-1, as Guerrero was 3-for-4, with a double, two singles and a run scored in addition to his three ribbies. National League Rafael Furcal isn't your regular player of the day, but his performance on Tuesday deserves special mention. After blanking the Giants on opening day, 5-0, the Dodgers were looking for two straight, but fell behind the Giants, 2-0 in the seventh. Enter Furcal, who drove in a pair of runs to tie the game in the bottom of the inning, and then scampered home from second with the game-winner in the bottom of the ninth on Dimitri Young's single. Furcal had singled with one out and was moved to second base on a walk to catcher Rod Martin. The Dodgers won, 3-2.Furcal also helped turn three double-plays for the Dodgers.
