Toronto 1 Seattle 2 - Prior to the game, manager Mike Hargrove announced that he would no longer be coaching the Mariners, saying that he no longer had the drive or commitment to the game that was needed and that he demanded from his players.
The entire team, including the front office, was caught off guard by Hargrove's sudden decision.
Speculation is running rampant about his health, his relationship with superstar Ichiro Suzuki and other potential issues, though it appears that after 35 years in organized baseball, Hargrove, 57, simply couldn't handle the pressure, the press and the grind of a 162-game season.
Despite the managerial shake-out, the Mariners went out and won their 8th straight.
Jeff Weaver pitched 8 innings without a decision, allowing only Frank Thomas' 501st home run in the 7th. J.J. Putz got the win, as
Jose Guillen homered in the 8th and singled in Adrian Beltre with the winning run in the ninth. The Mariners trail the Angels by 4 games in the AL West and will be managed, beginning Monday night, by Hargrove's bench coach, John McLaren

Jeremy Bonderman (right) shut out the Twins for 8 innings and
Todd Jones worked a perfect ninth for his 20th save. Bonderman (9-1) allowed just six hits and a walk while striking out 7. The Tigers trail Cleveland by 1 1/2 in the AL Central.
Oakland 11 NY Yankees 5 - The Yankees dropped their 2nd of 3 against the visiting A's and
Danny Haren improved to 10-2 as the A's hammered NY starter Andy Pettitte for 8 (7 earned) runs on 9 hits in the first 1 2/3 innings, scoring once in the first and 7 in the second. The Yankees, losers of 8 of their last 10, trail Boston by 11 games and 2nd place Toronto by 1/2 in the AL East. The A's remained in 3rd place in the AL West, trailing Seattle by 4 1/2 and the Angels by 8 1/2.

St. Louis 11 Cincinnati 7 - The Reds, with the worst record and, arguably, the worst pitching staff in either league, dropped their 16th game in their last 22 and fired manager Jerry Narron after the game.
Ken Griffey Jr. hit his 22nd home run, but the Reds' used 6 pitchers in another embarrassing performance. The Reds, obviously an unbalanced squad, rank 28th out of 32 teams in ERA, but lead the majors in homers with 119. Advance scout Pete Mackanin will take over as interim manager.
NY Mets 3 Philadelphia 5 - The Phillies managed to regain a bit of their dignity by taking the last of their four-game homestand against the Mets. When the series began on Friday, Phillies' fans had dreams of first place, as the Phils were only 3 games out, but the Mets won the first three games before dropping the finale on Sunday.
Milwaukee 1 Chi Cubs 5 - Jason Marquis stopped the Brewers' offense on 4 hits over 7 innings, allowing just Corey Hart's 6th inning solo shot as the Cubs took 2 of 3 from Milwaukee. Chicago evened their record at 40-40 and trail the Brewers by 6 1/2.
San Diego 0 LA Dodgers 5 -
Chad Billingsley struck out 9, and allowed just 3 hits over 7 innings as the Dodgers regained 2nd place in the NL West. The Padres lead by one over LA and 1 1/2 over Arizona.

The Tribe has won 6 in a row and lead the Tigers by 3 games in the AL Central.
Seattle 3 Kansas City 17 - Rookie Billy Butler singled, doubled and homered in 5 at-bats, driving in 6 runs and scoring 4 times as the Royals tied their season-high run output and scored in double digits for the 6th time this season. They took their second straight from the Mariners and are 7-3 over their last 10 games.

San Francisco 3 Cincinnati 7 - Barry Bonds cracked career home run #751, and needs just 5 more to break Hank Aaron's record. As usual, Bonds' blast was not enough to get the Giants a win. At 35-46, San Fran has a better record than only the Reds and Nationals, and the Reds have already fired their manager.
Chi Cubs 3 Washington 1 - Chicago picked up another game on Milwaukee as the Brewers were losing in Pittsburgh. Carlos Zambrano was on his game again, allowing just one earned in 6 2/3 innings on 3 hits and 4 walks, striking out 8 to improve to 10-6.

Clemens improved to 2-3, but more importantly, notched career win #350, becoming only the 8th major leaguer to achieve that mark and the first pitcher since Warren Spahn did it in 1963.
On the flipside, 3rd baseman Alex Rodriguez tripped over 1st baseman Justin Morneau's leg in the 6th inning and was forced to leave the game with a noticeable limp. It was later diagnosed as a strained hamstring, through the extent of the injury was not immediately known. Rodriguez will undergo tests on Tuesday and will likely sit at least a few games. The Yankee faithful are hoping that the All-Star will not have to go on the DL.
Tampa Bay 2 Cleveland 10 - The hits just keep coming for the Indians. Rookie Ben Francisco went 3-3 with a double and his 2nd home run in just 12 at-bats, scored twice and drove in 3 runs, and Grady Sizemore jammed a grand slam to close out the scoring in a 7-run 8th inning. Rookie starter, Fausto Carmona allowed one earned run on 4 hits while striking out 8 over six innings to improve to 9-4. The Indians lead Detroit by 2 games in the AL Central.
Toronto 11 Oakland 7 - Vernon Wells was moved to the leadoff spot and he responded with a pair of solo home runs as part of a 4-5 effort, leading the Jays over the A's. 
Milwaukee 10 Pittsburgh 3 - Part-time catcher Damian Miller went 4-5 with a pair of singles, a 2-run homer and a grand slam for 7 RBI as the Brewers maintained their 6 1/2-game lead over the Cubs.

Tampa Bay 6 Cleveland 8 - Grady Sizemore stroked 3 singles in four at-bats and drove in 3 runs in supports of C.C. Sabathia's 7 innings on the mound for his 12th win against just 2 losses. Sabathia allowed 3 runs (2 earned) on six hits while fanning 8, without walking a batter. Besides being the only 12-game winner in the majors, Sabathia's numbers are outstanding: 3.20 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, 116 Ks and 17 BBs in 123 1/3 innings. He deserves - and should be named - the AL starter in Tuesday's All-Star Game.

Milwaukee 13 Chi Cubs 4 - Rookie of the Year? How about Milwaukee's Ryan Braun? On Saturday, the Brewers' third baseman went 4-5, including 2 doubles and his 7th home run, scored 3 times and drove in 4. Braun is batting a hefty .349, but has only 129 at-bats. If he remains a regular - and it looks like he will - he'll likely have enough to qualify as a league-leader in hitting.
While the Brewers were establishing a 9-2 lead after three innings, starter Ben Sheets was cruising to his 10th win against just 3 losses.
