Verlander No-Hits Brewers; Utley Draws Phillies to within 3 of Mets
Note: During interleague play, home teams are reported under their respective leagues.
American League
Detroit 4 Milwaukee 0 - Justin Verlander (right) tossed the second ho-hitter of the season Tuesday in Detroit, victimizing the NL Central-leading Milwaukee Brewers with an exceptional arsenal of pitches and pulling the Tigers into a tie for first place with the Cleveland Indians. Verlander boosted his record to 7-2, working the 9 frames on 112 pitches, striking out 12 while issuing 4 free passes. The Tigers took an early 1-0 lead in the 3rd inning on Brandon Inge's 11th homer of the season and added a pair of runs in the 6th and one more in the 7th. Meanwhile, Verlander stymied and mystified the Brewers.
Kansas City 8 St. Louis 1 - In this Midwestern border war series, the Royals won the first skirmish, scoring 5 times in the opening inning, twice more in the 2nd and added another run in the 3rd. Mark Teahen singled, doubled and tripled in 5 at-bats, driving in 2 runs and scoring a pair.

Olsen didn't walk a batter and struck out 6, while battery-mate Miguel Olivo drove in all 3 Florida runs with a bases-loaded double in the 7th inning. Rookie sensation Fausto Carmona took the loss. He is 7-2.
Philadelphia 7 Chicago White Sox 3 - Chase Utley (right) walked and scored in the 1st inning, knocked a 2-run homer in the 2nd, singled in another pair of runs in the 4th and added a single to lead the Phillies to their 2nd straight win over the flagging White Sox and 6th in their last 8 games.
