American League
Slugging four home runs, Tampa Bay powered their way into the divisional series against Houston with a 5-1 win over the Oakland Athletics in the AL Wild Card game.
Striking early and often, the Rays homered in the first, second, third and fifth innings. Yandy Diaz, who socked a pair of solo shots, struck in the first and third innings. Avasail Garcia belted a two-run rip in the second and Tommy Pham added a fifth inning homer with the bases empty.
Charlie Morton took the win, working five innings, allowing only a third inning unearned run.
Tampa Bay will open the best-of-five divisional series at Houston on Friday at 2:05 pm ET. Later in the day, Minnesota plays at New York in the other divisional series, starting at 7:07 pm ET.
National League
There were no National League games on Wednesday. Two best-of-five divisional series open Thursday. St. Louis is at Atlanta, starting at 5:02 pm ET. The Dodgers host wild card winner, Washington, at 8:36 pm ET.
